Times & Prices
Our Saturday workshops run from my studio at Herringston Barn, just 2 miles south of Dorchester town centre. Most of our workshops run from 10am until 4pm & cost from £90 per person, not including materials. Scroll down to find workshop details & to see photos of each different type of workshop & pieces made on the day.
*these workshops have slightly different running times & costs
Silver Wire Bangles
Silver Wire Bangles
Perfect for beginners! These workshops are limited to just 6 people so there's plenty of chance to help everyone on a one-to-one basis. There will be a variety of silver wire shapes & weights for you to choose from on the day. Each bangle can be personalised with different textures, letter & number stamps etc. There should be time for each person to make 2 or 3 bangles polished & ready to wear by the end of the day.
Screen Printing Polymer Clay
Local jewellery designer Sarah Ricketts creates colourful polymer clay jewellery from her studio in Wimborne. During this workshop she’ll teach you how to create surface patterns on the clay using mini silkscreens & acrylic paint. These detailed, patterned pieces can then be cut, baked & finished into beautiful earrings & pendants.
Silver Spinner Rings
A popular workshop for beginners or those with previous experience wanting to learn new skills. We will use a variety of silver sheet & wires to create gorgeous spinner rings. The silver sheet ring can be textured, hammered or stamped to personalise & the spinning hoops can be a variety of widths, textures or even copper or brass for some contrast.
Silver Clay
You will be designing & making your own beautiful solid silver piece of jewellery with Grainne Reynolds. She will teach you how to handle, roll, texture & layer silver clay, how to make embellishments & attach a handmade bail to your design.
Silver Casting
Silver casting involves making a mould from a small item such as a button or a shell. Sterling silver is then melted down until it is molten & poured into your mould to make an almost identical silver copy of the item. These silver cast pieces can then be turned into charms, pendants or earrings.
Wax Carving a Ring for Lost Wax Casting
Marbellys will be teaching this workshop & will start off by briefly talking through the lost wax casting process which will be carried out in London by a professional casting company. She will then demonstrate how to use a signet ring wax profile to saw & fit your wax to the ring size you need. She will then show you a variety of different tools including files, burrs & heat pens which can be used to carve & shape your wax into the desired shape & design you would like. If time allows she will also show you how a small faceted gemstone such as a cubic zirconia can be set into the wax & can be cast into your silver ring. At the end of the workshop Marbellys can send off your wax rings to the casters in London to be made into sterling silver for a cost of £40.
Stone Setting Rings
I will have a variety of cabochon gemstones available to choose from & buy on the day, starting from just £2. We will make your silver rings first to practice all the cutting, filing, & soldering techniques required before starting on the stone setting itself.
Silver Stack Rings
A great workshop for beginners! Everyone will make & take home at least 2, if not 3 or 4 beautiful silver stack rings. The rings can be made from a choice of different size & shape silver wires & can be personalised with different textures & a silver, gold or copper nugget added on top. We will also have chance to use shot plates to make little silver shells & flowers which can be soldered on top of your stack rings if you wish.
